The death toll following a series of explosions at a police ammunition depot in northwestern Pakistan has tragically risen to 17, according to local authorities. Among the deceased are nine police officers, five detainees, and three civilians. Swat Valley Police Chief Shafiullah Gandapur confirmed the updated death count, adding that more than 50 individuals were injured in the blasts and several nearby buildings collapsed as a result.

While initial concerns suggested a potential militant attack, subsequent investigations have revealed no evidence supporting this theory. Experts who visited the site concluded that the explosions were more likely the result of a tragic accident. Another police officer has corroborated this finding, suggesting that an electrical short circuit may have caused the ammunition to catch fire. The incident has prompted a thorough review of safety protocols and procedures surrounding the storage and handling of ammunition within the region’s police force.

As authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the blasts, efforts are being made to ensure that such a tragedy is not repeated in the future. In the meantime, rescue operations and medical assistance are being provided to those affected by the incident. As the community grapples with the devastating aftermath, local and national authorities are working together to offer support and resources to those in need.
