Akufo-Addo’s ‘Real SONA’ exposed govt ‘naked dishonesty’ – Mustafa Hamid

Mustapha Hamid NPPA Spokesperson for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has justified Monday’s ‘Real State of the Nation Address’ by the opposition flagbearer as part of New Patriotic Party’s duty to shed light on dishonesty of the John Mahama-led administration.

Mustafa Hammed says the State of the Nation Address which President John Mahama presented to Parliament contained “deception and naked dishonesty” as a way of holding on to power after general elections in November this year.

“We [NPP] will be reneging on our responsibility if we did not expose it,” he explained on PM Express on the Joy News channel on Multi TV, Monday evening.

Akufo-Addo’s ‘Real State of the Nation Address’ Monday was a reaction the President’s constitutionally mandated address to Parliament last Thursday.

The opposition flagbearer alleged that contrary to the flowery presentation by the President, the country is sinking in debts.

He alleged that the Mahama administration has borrowed $37 billion in seven years, five times more than what Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah and former President John Kufuor governments borrowed within their respective tenures.

Speaking on PM Express, Mustafa Hamid also told show host Nana Ansah Kwao IV that key achievements enumerated by the President during his address to Parliaments were “palpable falsehoods”.

He mentioned for instance that figures quoted by the President as the cost of varous projects appear bloated.

He cited the construction of a six-unit classroom block which governement says costs GHC500,000 even though a similar project by telecoms giant, MTN, cost barely GHC150,000.

He noted for instance that the Salaga Hospital in the Northern Region which the President says is almost complete “has been fenced sealed and forgotten”.

“There is no work going on as far as the Salaga Hospital is concerned. It was our duty to expose that deception”, he stressed.

Government spokespersons have meanwhile denied Akufo-Addo’s claims.

Deputy Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson said figures presented by the opposition leader during his presentation were inaccurate.
